There are endless possibilities of for fun when spending the day at the Magic Kingdom; some of the best rides, stage shows, and fireworks can be found at Walt Disney World's first park. But after several hours of hitting that ride itinerary hard, you may find yourself wanting to just sit back in some air conditioning and relax for a bit, maybe with a delicious snack in hand?
If you're wanting to plan some downtime into your Magic Kingdom itinerary, here are our favorite places to just hang out and actually take the time to enjoy all the magic the park has to offer!
This slow-moving ride that takes you on a tour of Tomorrowland is often overlooked; we think this has a lot to do with the fact that it is not given a wait time, so it is not listed on the My Disney Experience app. But if you're looking to take it slow for a little while and just take in the sights, there's no better place to go! You'll enjoy 10 minutes of continuous people-watching and will even get a glimpse inside Space Mountain. We especially love the Peoplemover at night, when Space Mountain and Cinderella castle are lit up in all their glory.
The Hub Grass
When there's so much to do and see in Magic Kingdom, it may not occur to you to just grab a snack and relax! The hub grass between the end of Main Street and Cinderella castle is perfectly comfy and a prime spot for taking in the smells and music that permeate Magic Kingdom's center. Bonus points for grabbing a Dole Whip or Mickey ice cream bar before spreading out a blanket and lounging!
The Enchanted Tiki Room
This classic, air conditioned animatronics show will give you almost 20 minutes of respite from the heat and crowds, plus it's fun! This is another great opportunity to enjoy a Dole Whip, which you can grab just outside the showroom doors, and let your tired feet take a break.
Tom Sawyer Island
Like most of our recommendations on this list, Tom Sawyer Island is often overlooked, which is a good thing, because it means it's never crowded! After taking a skiff to the island, you're free to roam around and check out the nods to Mark Twain's most famous novel. There's a great area at the back of the island outside of the now defunct Aunt Polly's that's covered and has tables and chairs to enjoy. You'll rarely encounter anyone else in the area, and you can get a great view of The Haunted Mansion and the Rivers of America!
Walt disney's Carousel of Progress
Another often-missed attraction that provides plenty of time to sit and relax, the Carousel of Progress is great place to go in the heat of the afternoon when you're in need of a little relaxation! This 21 minute show features one of the best ride songs ever created (Sherman Brothers + Walt = perfect Disney nostalgia), and you get to enjoy it all from a comfy seat in the air conditioning!
pinocchio village haus
A quick service restaurant may seem like an odd addition to this list, but hear us out. Besides having an assortment of delicious flatbreads and salads, Pinocchio Village Haus also has an awesome upper level that provides a fun view of the boarding boats on it's a small world. We love grabbing lunch and people-watching here in the air conditioning when we need to slow down after a busy day in the most magical place on Earth!
There's more than enough to do in a day at Magic Kingdom without working any of these into your plans, but if you know you'll want to slow things down for a bit, you may want to consider it. The afternoon is the best time of day to plan some downtime, as it's when both crowds and the heat will be at their peak. Plus, after lunch is a good time to grab some dessert and give your food some time to digest before taking another spin on Space Mountain!
