I'm in the midst planning my first solo trip to Walt Disney World, and it's got me thinking about what things I consider MUST-do's on any trip. Like, the things I wake up in the morning wishing I was doing instead of blow-drying my hair and trying to find something I can eat for breakfast in the car without making a mess. I limited myself to 10 things, which, honestly, was really hard. But you've gotta stop somewhere, I guess.
If you're taking a quick trip or are looking to add some "can't-miss" things to your itinerary, here's what I recommend.
Ride Haunted Mansion
The Haunted Mansion is the definition of Walt Disney World for me. It has always been my favorite ride due to many reasons: the theming, the music, the smell. No trip is complete without taking a hitchhiking ghost home.
Rope Drop Magic Kingdom
Walking down Main Street with the just washed pavement still drying and the whole day ahead is one of my favorite things in all of life, let alone Walt Disney World.
Eat at O'hana
I firmly believe dinner at O'hana is the best meal Walt Disney World has to offer. Plus, a visit to O'hana means a visit to my beloved Polynesian Village Resort, so this one is sort of a two-for-one deal.
Ride Pirates of the Caribbean
Like The Haunted Mansion, Pirates makes the list not just for the ride but for everything it represents. Adventureland is one of my favorite parts of all the parks because its theming is so immersive, so even just the walk to Pirates is enjoyable for me. And I can't resist the smell of that dirty ride water.
Walk Around World Showcase
World Showcase is our favorite place to spend any large chunk of time in the parks, and anyone who has visited it before can see why. There's so much to see, eat, and drink, and no trip would be complete without watching the French acrobat climb to the top of his stack of chairs.
Watch Once Upon a Time Projection Show
I think most people would put the Magic Kingdom fireworks at the top of their list of things not to miss at Walt Disney World, but for me, I'd rather see the projection show. The music combined with the nostalgia each of the images brings is so much better than the fleeting beauty of colorful explosions. But that's just me.
Ride Toy Story Midway Mania
TSMM doesn't carry the same nostalgia as some of the other rides on this list, but it's just so much fun. It wouldn't be right to head home before I've beaten Ken and gotten that beaver prize!
Get A Chocolate Covered Pineapple from Germany
The Werther's shop in the Germany pavilion at Epcot has some of the most delicious snacks in all of Walt Disney World. And a fresh pineapple skewer covered in chocolate and caramel is my idea of the perfect treat.
Ride tower of terror
I'm a thrill-ride person as much as I am a themed-ride person, but Tower of Terror combines both of those things and I just can't resist it.
Get a Spikey Pineapple from Trader Sam's
This is my substitute for a Dole Whip since it's basically a Dole Whip with alcohol. Which makes it better. One of these out on the patio at the Polynesian right when the fireworks start? You can't get any better than that.
